In her M.Sc. thesis, Lekshmi explored the future changes in the Indian summer monsoon using CMIP6 models. The models are selected based on how well they simulate the observed monsoon circulation as well as precipitation. It is found that changes in wind patterns have a significant impact on monsoon precipitation in addition to the influence of future temperature changes. Future variations in the monsoon low-level jets (850hPa) over the Indian monsoon region are found to be strongly correlated with future variations in regional rainfall distribution.
