Panini DasguptaPh.D. Thesis [2016 – 2022]: The MJO in a Changing Climate

Affiliation: Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Climate Change Research, IITM

Quick Summary of Ph.D. Thesis

In his Ph.D. research, Panini explored the climatic changes in the lifecycle of the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), the prominent subseasonal variability in the tropics.

His research shows that the MJO lifecycle has been impacted by natural climate oscillations at multi-decadal timescales, such as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the long-term anthropogenic warming of the tropical oceans, in the past century. His work quantifies the projected changes in future MJO characteristics during the 21st century using CMIP6 models.
